Scoring System

Watching the Commonwealth Games on television my initial reaction to the scoring system in use was the same as Neil Cameron's, "Oh no, not again! What's wrong with the traditional system?" However, as the matches went on i warmed to the 21 up system with both server and receiver scoring points. it completely eliminated those boring periods when the service could repeatedly change hands with no change in the score. It was also good to see women playing the same number of points as men. I've never understood why they should only play eleven points in singles. I definitely think the new scoring system makes the game more interesting for the spectators.

On another topic, speaking as a former umpire, I feel that the vast majority of backhand sevices infringe the rules. Either that or players' waists have migrated upwards.
