Badders.com contacted the BA of E to ask them to comment on the new scoring system recently introduced by the IBF. Stephen Baddeley, the BA of E chief executive very kindly gave us his response.
The decision on the scoring system applies only to international events ( from 1 Aug ). My personal view is that it is a dreadful decision. It is an attack on the woman's game and the BAofE and European badminton should resist it even at International level.
However, I will need to discuss this within the BAofE and with European colleagues. There is no requirement to adopt this system at National level or below and I will be suggesting that we retain the traditional system for all events. In the longer term, I believe a change at International level to shorter games ( ideally 5 x 9) would be of significant benefit to the promotion of our sport.
Yours sincerely Stephen Baddeley
