Sport Centres from all over England are entering the new Carlton National Leisure Centres Championships, which is being staged in association with Central Sports.

But, if your centre hasn't already done so, there is still time to put in an entry.

The deadline is October 1 and application forms are available from BADMINTON England's Events Department on 01908 268400.

Initially, the Carlton National Leisure Centres Championships will be run using either a league ladder or knockout competition (completed by Jan 31) before players advance through the county (by March 14) and regional rounds (April 21-22) to the finals.

The finals will be played at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes in May.

The Championships is for players over 16 featuring all five events and there is a veterans' section for over 50s featuring men's and women's doubles.

The Carlton National Leisure Centres Championships, in association with the UK's No 1 specialist badminton retailer Central Sports of Coventry, is open to any player who has NEVER played in a league badminton match at senior level.

The Championships are targeting every leisure centre in England - and the 2.5m people who play badminton in them.

Toby Marcham, Dunlop Slazenger's Indoor Sports Marketing Manager, said: "The event provides the perfect opportunity to support recreational badminton and it complements Carlton's ongoing commitment to the game at elite level.

"As the World's No.1 specialist badminton brand Carlton is ideally positioned to help ensure the Championships are a great success."

Darren Parks, BADMINTON England's Events Manager, said: "This is a great opportunity for players at leisure centres to take on players from neighbouring centres in a friendly competition.

"It provides a missing link in their badminton - and for the eventual winners there will be the chance to visit the National Badminton Centre and to scoop some quality prizes."

There will be local, county and regional rounds before the Championships reach their final stages.

So get your centre to put in an entry ... you have two weeks to beat the deadline.
