DESPITE the possibility of more coaches leaving its stable, the BA of Malaysia isn't about to spring into action.
In fact, BAM is content to wait till the National Sports Council is restructured, which is expected to be completed in March.
BAM is also hopeful that decisions on the NSC are expected when
the Cabinet Committee for Sports, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister
Datuk Seri Najib Razak, meets tomorrow.
BAM secretary P. Ganga Rao said the whole issue could be resolved after the Cabinet Committee meeting.
"I feel the Cabinet Committee meeting will be the key.
"Most of the important issues will be finalised there and we will know our direction after that," said Ganga.
"At this juncture, we simply cannot have any meetings as we are unaware of the changes to be implemented by NSC.
"That's the reason we have not held our coaching and training committee meeting as we are awaiting more details from NSC.
"Li Mao (who has left to join South Korea as their singles coach)
has offered to help the players but a decision must be made on that as
he is on leave until Feb 20.
"Our programme is ongoing until the 2008 Beijing Olympics and there are not many changes to it."
It is surprising that BAM has come to a point where it needs NSC's
feedback to fine-tune programmes as this is done by the coaches headed
by Yap Kim Hock.
Kim Hock has requested for a coaching and training committee
meeting to decide on Li Mao's successor but there has not been any
positive feedback.
And BAM's insistence on wanting to wait for NSC to sort itself out
doesn't make sense as what is of importance now is the programmes for
the World Championships in August and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
