WERE you at this year’s record-breaking Yonex All England Open Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham? Well, you can be back there in August – and not just as a spectator.

BADMINTON England will once again be filling the National Indoor Arena on the 18th and 19th August, with the support of Birmingham City Council and sponsorship of racket and equipment company Yehlex (UK). The team have once again sought to provide a fun but competitive weekend of badminton for anyone from junior through to veteran, social or league standards.

Darren Parks, BADMINTON England’s Head of Competitions and Events, said: “We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Yehlex and with Birmingham City Council by staging another festival of badminton.

“It’s a chance for club players of differing standards to compete in the arena of champions but obviously the emphasis will be on fun rather than the serious competitive nature of the All England Championships.

“It will be great to be back in Birmingham because this year’s All England attracted a record attendance and record TV coverage worldwide. It shows the increased popularity of our great sport.

"As well as offering plenty of badminton matches, the Yehlex Birmingham Bonanza provides a chance for club and county players as well as beginners to compete in the arena where some of the best players in the world have made their names. There was a massive entry last summer’s Yehlex Bonanza and we hope this year’s event will be even more popular.”

The two-day spectacular will feature badminton on 28 courts and offers the chance for players of all ages and standards to come along and try the sport.

Top coaches from BADMINTON England will be there to advise and help players improve their game and ensure they gain maximum enjoyment from a weekend of non-stop badminton action. And BADMINTON England’s membership team will be on hand to explain the benefits of being a BE member and to give players the chance to sign up.

Yehlex (UK) Managing Director Ian Little said today: "Development of our sport at grass-roots level is paramount to the future of badminton. Yehlex (UK) are delighted to continue with their sponsorship for what will be a superb event at the National Indoor Arena in August.

"The event has been amazingly popular in previous years so please enter early and come and enjoy a fabulous weekend."

Cllr Ray Hassall, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture said: "We are delighted that the Yehlex Badminton Bonanza is back in Birmingham for another year. This event will provide young people from across the city with the chance to be active and learn new skills in an Olympic sport.

"Birmingham City Council's backing of this event is another demonstration of our support for grassroots sport, which is just as important to us as the staging of major sports events in the city."

The entry form can be downloaded to the right of this article, or from the FORTHCOMING BONANZAS section on the BADMINTON England website. For further information contact the Events Department at BADMINTON England on events@badmintonengland.co.uk or 01908 268400.
